Bargain-hunters hit Leicester shops for Boxing Day Next sales
Hordes of eager bargain-hunters descended on the city centre to take advantage of the Boxing Day sales. Highcross Leicester had 100,000 visitors on Saturday alone, with 7,000 of those arriving between 7am and 8am on Saturday for the first hour of the sales at Next and Debenhams. The city's small independent retailers also said they were busy.

Shoppers splash the cash as next sales start in Cumbria
The clothing store in The Lanes shopping centre was so busy it had to operate a policy of ‘one-in, one-out’. Next was not the only store doing a roaring trade. David Jackson, commercial director of The Lanes, said: “It was a quiet start but it picked up as the day went on. We had a really good week in the run-up to Christmas and expect that to continue.” The Lanes counted 37,527 shoppers on Saturday, an increase of 10.9 per cent on Boxing Day last year.
